July 12, 2010, 610 Buchanan Blvd., Durham, N.C.
In January of 2006 I moved into a sweet little apartment on Buchanan Boulevard across the street from Duke’s East Campus. Three months later there was a party next door that had everyone in the country talking and in some cases screaming. My housemate at the time, Jason, watched some of the events of that now notorious night unfold from our front porch, the same view as the above photo when the house was finally destroyed four years later.
From the time that news anchors jockeyed for live shot positions in front of the house until dogs were kept in the backyard because “no one lived there anyway” – I continued to make photos of the house from my apartment. I have not lived there since 2008, but I found myself on the porch this past Monday when Duke gave the go ahead to knock the sour landmark down. There’s a lot more that I could say about living next to that place (one published account), but I find it best to let the photos speak for themselves.
